Need a new toothbrush? A pizza? A pair of socks? Some printer paper? Ohio Zeta brother, Tylor Pritchard ’18, has the answer for you. It’s called Chop Chop. A smartphone application currently serving the OSU, UC Davis and Ohio University markets, Chop Chop is an Uber-like service which, based on the availability of carriers and the acceptance of your delivery fee bid, will deliver pretty much anything to you, anywhere within the agreed-upon geography … for the agreed-upon price. Since launching in November 2015, Chop Chop has registered nearly 800 users, most of whom are college students.
Tylor, a graduate from Upper Sandusky High School, is a sophomore studying biology. He credits his interest in Phi Delt at OSU to Brother Peter Sender who encouraged both Tylor and fellow Upper Sandusky graduate, Shin Nagahama, to pledge. Tylor plans to attend chiropractic school upon graduation … unless his entrepreneurial interests lead him in a different direction.
“I have learned so much from this experience,” Tylor explains. “I know it will help me long term with my desire to open my own chiropractic firm and succeed as a business owner.”
The idea for Chop Chop was presented to Tylor by another high school friend, Kevin Cui, who is currently a student at UC Davis. Kevin was the brains behind another app which taught English to Chinese students through video chat. Kevin sold the technology and providing the financial backing for Chop Chop.
As stated on the website, “At Chop Chop, we believe in a society where everybody should be able to do others a favor. Join us and become a part of the fastest and most simple delivery option in town. Sign up today and start building a better society!” Anyone who signs up to be a driver or carrier is qualified through a background check and must have a valid driver’s license. The financial transactions are backed by Braintree, a PayPal company that “makes it possible for companies all over the world to accept payments online and let customers make a purchase with one touch.”
Chop Chop began in the UC Davis area and continues to thrive in the San Francisco market. It has also expanded to Ohio State and Ohio University with new markets on the horizon. The target market is students, so most drivers will be taking a break over the holiday. However, the founding partners, including Tylor and Kevin, will be busy meeting with at least seven potential investors interested in helping them expand into new markets.
