We recently caught up with Dave Burba, former MLB pitcher, about his Phi Delta Theta membership and his alumni years.
Q: What’s new in your life today?
A: Currently I am a AA pitching coach with the Colorado Rockies. I live in Gilbert, AZ and have a wife, Star, and 3 kids (Madison 23, Dylan 21, and Dawson 15).
Q: Name 3 brothers you’d like to connect with this year, and why.
A: I would like to get in contact with Brian Davis, Jason Janoski, and Don Martin. Brian—because we used to stay in touch and laugh at each other’s funny stories. Jason—because he is my big brother and I haven’t spoken to him in a long time. Don—because he is my little brother.
Q: What is your favorite/most memorable fraternity tradition?
A: My favorite was Dad’s night—hanging out and enjoying the evening with family and friends.
Q: Where was the best hangout on campus in Columbus during your school days? Is it still around and the same today?
A: Papa Joe’s was popular when I was in school. It is no longer around campus.
Q: What are the top 3 things you gained from your fraternity membership?
A: The friendships developed over the years, the trust I have to reach out to a brother and be welcomed no matter the situation, and all the wonderful experiences I had during my time at the fraternity.
Q: Would you encourage your child or grandchild to join a fraternity or sorority? Why or why not?
A: I would encourage anyone to enjoy the experience.
Q: What stories from your fraternity days would you share/have you shared with your children or grandchildren?
A: I just share the fun times and crazy times I had that bring a smile to my face when I look back at years I spent at The Ohio State University.
