Q: Why did you join PDT OSU in the first place?
A: I was a veteran of the Korean conflict and, at age 22, thought it would be great to join a special group.
I think it’s important to keep up with my former brothers and keep current on activities.
Q: What’s your favorite memory from your time in the chapter?
A: My getting up at 5 a.m. every morning to cook breakfast for the entire house, there were 40 different ways to cook eggs!
Q: Do you still keep in touch with any of your brothers?
A: Not many, but a few. Jim Hartley ’57 is one.
Q: Tell us about the company you are an owner of.
A: I’m no longer an Owner, but a consultant working part time. My firm is one of the largest designers of K-12 schools in the country. My job is to keep in contact with former clients who have moved on to other school districts to determine if they need new or renovated buildings.
Q: How did your time in PDT help to prepare you for that role?
A: Most of the brothers were involved in activities. I was a member of Rhomaphos and also business manager for the MAKIO, the OSU year book.
Q: What have you been up to since graduation?
A: Started my own architectural firm in Findlay, Ohio in 1963, stayed there 20 years and raised four children. Then, moved to Columbus and merged my firm with Fanning Howey.
Q: What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?
A: That would be raising my four children, all of whom had a college education, are married and gave me 11 grandchildren.
Q: What advice would you give to future generations of PDT members?
A: Work hard, follow your dreams, keep positive. Anything can be accomplished with drive and focus. Don’t settle for second best.
