Checking in With George Jonson ’56

George, his wife and two of their grandchildren.

“I joined Ohio Zeta because my older brother was a Phi at Ohio State and I had an opportunity to visit in the spring of my senior year in high school, where I met a lot of Phis and I felt right at home when school started in the fall.

My favorite memories are the serenading of sororities, the Gold Diggers campaigns for our candidate and coming in from a party or date and sitting around talking about history. I have not kept in touch with any of the brothers in the last few years. I used to see Bill Balyeat ’54 occasionally at legal seminars, etc.

I practiced law in Hamilton, Ohio for 55 years before I retired three years ago. After graduation from law school, I entered the U.S. Air Force as a JAG officer, serving three years before starting my practice.

My wife and I have three children, one son and two daughters, as well as four grandchildren. Our son and youngest daughter are both OSU grads. Our other daughter is a Miami grad. Our oldest grandson is a sophomore at OSU.

I served as a member of the Hamilton City Council for 10 years and on the Hamilton City Board of Education for 32 years. I am currently serving on the Hamilton Civil Service Commission and the Hamilton Board of Zoning Appeals

My wife and I continue to follow Hamilton Big Blue football and basketball as well as watching our youngest granddaughter in her soccer activities and her older brother playing basketball at Lakota West High School. We also follow our older granddaughter in her cheerleader activities at Hamilton High School. I enjoy walking and reading.”
